Poggio al Vento is a small agritour farm directly conducted. Lido, Marisa and Roberto Mascelloni offer thery hospitality since 1994 in 5 flats each one for two persons. The flats are charming and relaxing with a wonderful valley view ont the Orcia river. Our family will welcome you to taste our countyside products, our D.O.C. wines and oil, honey and fresh vegetables from the kitchen-garden.
The Mascelloni's lead Poggio al Vento since 1961, and from that date they always lived ther. In the beginning all the production was only for themselves except for wine, oil, cereals and meat animals. From the early 70's began the production of cereals and wine with the plantation of the first ha of vineyard and the subsequent commerce of wine. After a freezy winter that froze all the olive trees they decided to renew all theri plants and began the production and the bottling of oil in bottles of 0,750 lt and cans of 3 an 5 litres.
In 1994 we built our first 3 flats, (giglio tulipano e geranio) and then, encouraged by the success of this we built the other 2 (oleandro e mimosa) giving a new aspect to the exterior.
On 2000 Valentine's day we bottled our first red wine called "Orcia" aged and refined in oak barriques.
In 2002, due to an unexpected error, one of our vineyards produced only one ton of grapes and we tought to produce a superior red wine mixing the 85% of Sangiovese and the 15% of Cabernet Sauvignon obtaining the new red called ARCERE. Because of the good success of this new kind of production we decided to apply this technique also to the oil harvesting only the "Frantoio" quality in the early days of November, obtaining such unexpected quality results. |
